How to Disable or Remove the “Unlock Keyring” Dialogue Box in Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint)

Keyring Manager Application is a brilliant new app for security reasons in Ubuntu. This application stores and manages all the passwords for your credentials so that your computer and files on it remain safe. And though this application is highly recommended but still some people feel very annoyed being asked to enter password every time they use a particular app. Those users who are running it on their private computers like laptop feel this app of no use and rather time wasting.

So if you are among the one who does not like to enter the password every time you use an application, you can disable the “Unlock Keyring” dialog box. Step 1: Open the password and keys application. To do this click on the top-left Ubuntu logo on the screen, the dash board will appear. Now search “Password and keys” or “Seahorse” or simply “Password”. Open the app shown on the dash.
Step 2: On the password and keys window now right-click on the item you wish to remove the Unlock Keyring option from. If you have to remove this dialog box from multiple applications then select the apps one by one.
Step 3: A pop-up menu will appear when you right click on the password item. Now enter your current password in the old password option.
Step 4: For the new password option DO NOT enter any password and just leave it blank. So you will leave the “password” and “confirm” option fields empty.
Step 5: After you select OK you will need to confirm “Store passwords unencrypted” dialog box that will appear. Just click on the “Use Unsafe Storage” option.
And that’s it. Now when you will open this application again then the “Unlock Keyring” dialog box will no longer appear. The application will automatically be unlocked as you made it to do so.
Note: Though this method will no longer bother you with the “Unlock Keyring” dialog box every time you open the application but it will also expose all the passwords saved in Keyring to anyone who uses this computer. Therefore it is not recommended to do so until your computer is not shared by anyone except you.
